Job Description

Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in several clinics/departments of the VTH including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal ICU, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery etc.
This position will work primarily in small animal ICU evenings and weekends. Shift differential pay is available.

Exposure to animal diseases that may be transmitted to humans. Subject to animal scratches or bites. Exposure to chemicals and pharmaceuticals used in treatment of animals, medical waste, animal feces, urine, blood, and vomitus. Exposure to hazardous materials such as chemotherapeutic drugs. Loud noises related to small and large animals are routine. 

Must comply with mandatory rabies pre-exposure vaccine program.

Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Degree/GED

Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.

Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc.

Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree

Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.

Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).

Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential.
