Job Description

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Trust is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our leadership team headquartered in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago. The AVMA Trust provides professional liability insurance, life and disability coverage, financial services, as well as other important benefits to the over 98,000+ members of the AVMA. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the veterinary profession. AVMA’s mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary      medicine to improve animal and human health.

Partnering with the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for driving the trust’s financial and accounting capabilities. The goal of the CFO position is to provide leadership for the financial viability of the Trust and to drive extensive financial sustainability and growth. They will also manage company costs  and bottom-line growth to help deliver on timely and accurate financial performance reports.

The CFO will also:

  • Provide leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting function
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and members of the senior leadership team
  • Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting
  • Advise on long-term business and financial planning
  • Manage vendor relationships to help ensure timely financial reporting
  • Review all formal finance, HR and IT related procedures

To be successful in this role, you must be highly organized, collaborative and passionate about the Trust’s growth strategy and mission of serving and the veterinary profession. Additional qualifications include:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 15 years of related financial / accounting experience; insurance experience is a plus; MBA a plus
  • Knowledge/experience in the Association market is highly desirable
  • Proven track record of outstanding performance
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have experience presenting in front of large groups
  • Strong time management and analytical skills
